25 Years & A Rap [Berry Flan]

25 years ago last Tuesday my parents got married. We celebrated with a lovely al fresco dinner at home. I made them a berry flan. I wrote them a rap.

So if anyone is looking for a preppy, classically trained singer to freestyle at their next event, you know where to find me. (Mostly totally joking.)SONY DSCveryberryflan
I remember this flan from when I was younger — my Dad doesn’t eat a lot of dessert, but he would request this one from mum often. When the weather got balmy, my mum would effortlessly whip a few of these up and save them in the freezer for when we had company for dinner. So while this flan hadn’t made an appearance at our table for a little while, I knew both of my parents were flan fans. (Say that three times fast.)strawberryflan

And now, if you’ve scrolled all the way down here…my rapping debut:
A Very Serious Rap, for M&D (wut wut)
25 years! Oh me, oh my!
As they say, that time does fly.
25 years ago today,
You started on your married way.
Love, 15, 30, 40, game,
A couple on and off the court– you put the rest to shame.
Thanking you for all you do, cause really it’s a lot
To take us here, and take us there, and give us all you’ve got
You’ve shown and shared a love that’s true, a love that can’t be bought,
And are always optimistic when it seems we’ve gone to pot!
Role models and good people, you really are first rate
25 years of Tom &J-M you should celebrate!
With all you do we wanted to gift you a little treat,
A chance to unwind and put up your busy feet.
So here to provide the relaxation of which we speak
A gift, for two, to chill at le Nordik!

Written on the bus — perhaps not the best rhymes, but I’m just starting out! (Le Nordik is a spa around here — I handed them the gift with a flourish at this point in the rap, it was theatrical.)
I’ll probably just stick to making tarts…Happy baking, and happy anniversary Mum & Dad!
