Add a flight south, subtract snowy sub-zero temperatures, multiply that by a few beachside cocktails, balance it with equal parts tennis court domination and hammock relaxation, raise that all to the power of a Bob Marley soundtrack and it sums up to a pretty great Jamaican vacation.
We found a vacation routine that somehow didn’t involve the sleeping in I’d been dreaming about; there was too much fun to be had (I compensated with hammock naps every now and then). Full of family tennis rivalries, an urban hike to the best jerk chicken, sunset chasing and star gazing, the week flew by in a blur of sand and sunscreen. Schoolwork got neglected, and I might have been so focused on sipping my coconut water that I walked in to a palm tree. It was glorious.
It was definitely a little luxurious escape from everyday life, and I’m so grateful (thanks again, mum & dad!). After being back in Ottawa for a week, we’re getting back in to the swing of things at home. Hopefully I’ll be back here soon with a recipe for what ended up being my favourite guilty-pleasure-vacation cocktail. ‘Til then, you can catch me onstage! Cheers, friends — hope the sun is shining in your part of the world.
